Exactly Drew! Well, you aren't going to be happier in the future if you continue to concentrate on how happy you'll be in the future.

This makes sense. If anything I'm happiest at this point, because I'm not continually worrying about how happy I will be in the future, but that's also because I'm very happy at the moment and I feel that my future is assured.

So, in a way I guess that relates to what you're saying. That if we don't use our futuresense as often, we end up happier in this point in our lives. Happiness in the moment also leads to less consideration of futuresense because of its lack of current relevance.

Good post.

This is touching on Zen issues in parts.

It is very difficult to live in the moment, to enjoy life, because there is always somewhere we want to be.

I have seen it, people literally 'living the day', they look healthy, well-rested, calm.

Striking the balance between that and having goals is what we are all looking for...

Just one of those blessing/curse things I suppose, being human and all...

I'm somewhat an evolutionary psychology geek myself, and your explanation that we don't need that "futuresense" anymore makes sense. I'll try to remember those non-happening 75 futures next time I get cold feet about doing something I really want to do. Thanks!:)

Exactly! We do spend a lot of time worrying. To some that is paralyzing. I hope this helps someone overcome their fear of the future.

Very interesting post. I guess it's true that we tend to live in the future or try to do so. We spend a lot of time worrying about what will come and we never realize that it is of no use at all.

Thanks for the insight Everett!
